Shocked and Awed
I think I'm suppose to be writing about why I decided to blog, but I currently have a more pressing moment to share. This might be a little disjointed writing as I'm still in some what of disbelief. My son, the eldest of the two, the one that when first born shred a light of un-contained joy onto me, has, well... Done it again. This evening, while exploring the adventures to be had on the official bob the builder website, I decided I would introduce my son to the power that can be bestowed upon one when using a wireless laser mouse. I took his small hand, which now only just extends past my own palm, and rested it between the mouse and myself. As I moved around the web site his arm laid limp allowing him to feel the graceful glide of a well crafted piece of techno-machinery. When pressing the left mouse button I could feel the pressure that was being applied to his little finger and we harmoniously 'clicked' together . It was a joyful moment that was meant to be shared with parent and son. A time that would keep my smiling for the rest of the night and the next day.
Honestly, though, I didn't expect much more from him other than letting me control his hand and smash his finger. It was quite a moment of shock and awe when he took over the controls and successfully maneuvered the mouse to the virutal paint can of his choice. Watching this little guy, not even 3 years old handle a mouse better than some adults I've seen was a mind blowing experience. I assumed that fatigue and frustration would quickly settle in as his little hand struggled to place the cursor in small precise positions, but he continued to work and thrive at his new skill. Myself on the other hand, not being allowed to participate, tired and then retired to a chair near the computer. It was a good 1/2 hour longer before I made him call it quits and get ready for bed. Wow, my son the power user. What's next?
